“An image can tell more than a thousand words…” or more than that, can give you thousands of visits to your blog post. You can do much better, you can attract visitors to your blog just because you post matters of interest to the vast majority of internet surfers and use images as an “eye catcher”. But today we are not going to talk about images. Let´s talk about content…
How can you attract more traffic to your blog? How can you make your blog rank on top of the popular keyword searches? How can you fulfill your dreams of making your blog a profitable business?…
First of all, let me tell you that if you are a blogger who posts on a regular basis, you are already one step ahead. Search engines will always give more credit to “fresh content” and if you have original and unique points of view on popular and trending topics you have many chances of ranking close to the typical “static” web pages that stay on the same top positions just because they have been there
for many years and they have lots of genuine links to their sites.
Additionally, if your blog allows and encourages comments (genuine and non-spammy comments) moderated and sometimes answered by you, some of your posts can rank even higher.
It looks like a piece of cake, right? It looks like if you are a good writer, and if you post on a daily basis to trending topics you will become very popular and you can live of your “blogging business”.
Well…unfortunately it´s not THAT simple…
There are millions of active blogs out there, and with SEO experts (Search Engine Optimization) knowing what they need to do to rank higher in search engines (and believe me, they know by far better than you and me), they are intensive bloggers covering all the popular topics related to their own business and using all kind of technical tricks to cheat search engines. As a result of this you will see them rank usually higher than your blog.
You can tell when a SEO expert is conducting a blog just by looking at their posts. It looks like they are not talking to you. In fact they are stuffing “search keywords” and “search arguments” into their text. This is why the whole blog seems to be written by some sort of artificial intelligence.
Internally (or in the background) they also do a lot of work to improve the value of the their posts by using Hyper Text Language to make search engines pay attention to relevant phrases or keywords and have their blog mapped to show on top of many specific search arguments that will drive people to their business. Unfortunately, this is a legal trick. And to some extent search engines encourage that just to have these SEO guys test the efficiency of their “Webmaster tools”.
SEO bloggers are also clever enough to build a network of loyal followers and posts commenters, just to trade comments that will bring more value to their posts. They know they can no longer buy or trade links (search engines will sooner or later figure it out and penalize them), so their new trade values are comments. This is why you see lots of forums that share a set of common blogs that usually rank high in searches. Typical comments are questions that drive answers from the community and more and more people interacting. The answer is usually a commercial recommendation without a direct link (remember they cannot build a “link nest” because they will get penalized), but they rely on the fact that people read the comments and will probably feel the curiosity of visiting the commenters recommendation. Besides, it is safer to type in a website name in your browser rather than clicking into a link of a comment. Additionally and just to give you an idea of their popularity they use all the likes and pluses of the social networks, so that you can think: “if they trust him…”.
After reading all this, you may be telling yourself: “I’d better quit blogging…someone else is already there and is doing much better than me…”
There’s just one thing that will make you become a successful blogger: TIME.
Keep writing for the people. Show you care about them by sharing your honest thoughts and opinions. You can do this in a formal or colloquial speech, but try not to write for search engines.
Average readers will understand what you post, so there’s no need to repeat or over explain what you are trying to post. This can be annoying.
Keep writing on a regular basis, daily, weekly or monthly. If you are no longer posting in your blog you´d better close it and erase it contents.
If you use Twitter®, Facebook®, Google+® or any other social button associated to your blog try to keep it up to date in connection to your blog contents. Someone may think you don´t care about it or even worst you are no longer there.
Don´t copy/paste articles someone else published and then modify it. Search engines will soon figure it out. You should better read the articles, keep them in mind and then start writing your post with your own thoughts. And of course then you can mention about that article you read and place a courtesy link for your readers.
If you are in a competitive business, and you don´t have other option than repeat content related to your business, you are at the risk of being considered as “duplicated content” for search engines. In this case remember that less is more. Don´t think that just because your post will include ten thousand words about your offering you will rank higher. Search engines will see you as a keyword spammer. On top of your short description of the products or services you sell,
use your own words, what’s in your mind. Also try writing posts that may not be directly tied or related to your business that can give value to your readers.
Sooner or later you will succeed. Remember that, although search engines are not clever enough to understand “value” you readers do.
Finally keep in mind that you should not expect and immediate reaction to that stuff you post. Everything runs fast on the Internet, but you may have to blog for months or even years till you get some reasonable amount of readers andcommenters. Are you ready for this?
